Fined Chemical Company Linked to Ohio and Indiana Plants
Dover Chemical Corporation agreed to pay $1.4 million in civil penalties after they illegally manufactured substances at plants in both Ohio and Indiana, according to the Justice Department. Authorities are saying that the chemical company came to the settlement on Tuesday, February 7, in Akron, Ohio at the U.S. District Court. The substance in question is a short-chain chlorinated paraffin and it has been linked to causing cancer and other nervous system problems in humans. The company agreed to send this chlorinated product for review to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. For those who are not familiar with this chemical, chlorinated paraffins are commonly used to manufacture plastics, lubricants, and paint.
