Industrial Accidents Kill Two Tennessee Workers
In a strange set of events, two men died last Friday in eerily similar industrial accidents that were in no way related. One man was a driver with Venture Express. His accident took place when he was hit by a 40,000-pound coil of steel which was being removed from his truck by a crane. Just a few hours earlier, at the Nissan Plant in Rutherford County, Tennessee, a transportation employee was pinned between his truck and a parked trailer. In both cases, no foul play is suspected, but both companies agreed to work with investigators regarding the accidents.
The crane operator in steel coil incident said that he continued to remove the coil from the truck because he didn't realize the man was outside of his truck. When he realized, it was too late to stop the coil from swinging right into the man, pinning him to the truck. Although the man didn't die at the scene, he died soon after he was taken to a nearby hospital. In the case of the Nissan worker, no other employees were involved.
