This afternoon around 2 pm, a truck driver was killed while working at the Port of Houston near La Porte. He was struck by a “rubber-tired gantry crane” located at the Barbours Cut terminal. It has been reported that the crane was not in the water, and it wasn’t used to move containers to or from offshore vessels. A gantry crane is a four-legged crane that straddles shipping containers.
The driver’s name has not been released by authorities. The Port of Houston Authority sent firefighters and police to the scene, where they were assisted by the La Porte and Houston police departments.
As far as we know, no one else was injured by the crane. Not much else is known about the situation.
