A bus accident near Oxford, Alabama injured at least 15 people on Sunday evening. According to officials from the Oxford Fire Department, they received a call just after 5:00 p.m. informing them that an 18-wheeler had collided with the back of a charter bus. The accident occurred on Interstate 20 near mile marker 178.
First responders to the scene of the accident found 16 people in need of transportation to the hospital. An additional 35 people were taken to a local civic center to get them off the highway and in a safe waiting area.
Chief Gary Sparks of the Oxford Fire Department said the large truck hit the bus in the rear as well as along its side.
According to local reports, the bus was transporting a dance club from Mississippi to Atlanta, Georgia. Teenagers were among the injured passengers who were taken to the hospital. Twelve of the injured were taken to a hospital in Calhoun County and four were taken to one in Talladega.
