The legal team at Arnold & Itkin is proud to announce that they have been recognized for securing the top aviation verdict in Texas for all of 2013, according to VerdictSearch. The verdict comes from a case tried by Attorneys Cory Itkin and Caj Boatright on behalf of Derek LeBlanc, a man who had been severely injured in a helicopter crash while traveling from Port O'Connor, TX to work on a platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
Halfway through his flight, the helicopter's tail rotor began to malfunction—causing the pilot to conduct a controlled emergency landing. This, however, did not go as planned as the helicopter's flotation devices had been incorrectly installed. After the soft landing, the flotation devices did not properly work and the aircraft rolled in the water. The plaintiff was required to evacuate from the helicopter and hold onto the skids while waiting for the rescue boats. In the aftermath, he sustained serious back injuries and suffered from PTSD.
Arnold & Itkin Wins Nearly $1.7M on Behalf of Helicopter Accident Victim
Arnold & Itkin recovered a $1,496,000 jury award in the case (Derek LeBlanc v. PHI Inc., No. 12-2-1545), which totaled at $1.67 million once the court calculated past medical bills. The case is now being honored in Top Texas Verdicts and Settlements of 2013, which was published in the Texas Lawyer newspaper in May.
