Van Collides with Pickup Truck: 12 Dead & 3 Injured

On Wednesday at 12:30 PM, a van collided with a pickup truck on a two-lane highway in Uvalde County, TX. The church had been carrying senior adults from First Baptist Church of New Braunfels at the time of the incident; they were returning from a three-day retreat at the Alto Frio Baptist Encampment in Leakey. At least 12 individuals were killed in the crash and 3 were left severely injured. It is currently unclear whether the driver of the pickup truck was one of the individuals killed. The cause is also undetermined.

Photographs from the scene of the collision show that both vehicles sustained severe damage to the drivers’ sides, which is where it is believed that they collided. Photos show the back of the van pushed to the guardrail.

Both local authorities and the National Transportation Safety Board have said they will investigate.

In a statement released on Facebook, the First Baptist New Braunfels church said they “are ministering to family members to help them deal with this tragedy” and that counselors will be available on Thursday. They asked for prayers for the families and individuals affected.
