Invokana Injuries Our Firm Will Fight For You

Billions of Dollars Won in Verdicts & Settlements

Invokana (also called canagliflozin) is a brand-new class of diabetes drug designed for people with Type II diabetes. Diabetes drugs in general manage blood sugar levels through insulin, which allows blood sugar to be absorbed by the body. Invokana, however, lowers blood sugar by forcing it through the kidneys.

As a result, Invokana users have had severe health issues, including:

  • Kidney failure
  • Heart attack
  • Brain swelling
  • Ketoacidosis

Arnold & Itkin currently represents people who have suffered as a result of taking Invokana. Pharmaceutical manufacturers, in this case Johnson & Johnson, are responsible for the effects their medications have. When buyers are not sufficiently warned about the risks of taking Invokana, severe injuries can result. Our firm wants to help.

We have secured billions of dollars in verdicts and settlements. We have won numerous record-setting results nationwide for the injured. When people are facing the worst injuries of their life, when their health and their future are on the line, they turn to Arnold & Itkin. And we honor that trust with round-the-clock client service, effective medical treatment, and relentless trial advocacy.

Why You’ve Been Injured

To a consumer who may not know any better, Invokana sounds like a wonderful solution. It inhibits the reabsorption of glucose (sugar) into the bloodstream, which is why sugar is forced through the kidneys into the urine. As a result, your body begins eating up your fat stores, resulting in weight loss side effects. Unfortunately, that’s not the end.

The kidneys are not able to handle that much glucose. As a result, the kidneys become overworked and shut down—resulting in potential “backflow” of your body’s waste into your bloodstream. This results in toxic shock, a potentially deadly contamination of the blood. At the same time, your body’s use of your fat stores creates a molecule in the bloodstream known as a ketone. In small amounts, it’s not deadly. However, Invokana use creates an excessive amount of ketones, which leads to a condition known as “ketoacidosis.”

Excessive ketone levels can dehydrate the brain and the kidneys, leading to brain swelling and coma. Due to the nature of Invokana, diabetic ketoacidosis occurs with nearly normal blood sugar levels, so it's difficult to detect. Unfortunately, the weight loss caused by Invokana has also led to its off-label use and promotion.

You May Have the Right to Compensation

Arnold & Itkin believe that pharmaceutical companies should be held responsible for the damage their drugs cause. If you’ve been injured from using Invokana, you are entitled to recovery for the expenses and costs associated with your injuries. This amount may be more comprehensive than you think.

Pharmaceutical injury recoveries can include:

  • Past and future medical care
  • Wages lost since being injured
  • Loss of future salary/earning potential
  • Long-term pain and suffering
  • Any financial losses accrued from the injuries
