Deepwater HorizonClient Experience

"One of the things that was important out of representing our clients in the Deepwater Horizon explosion was to make sure that nothing like this ever happens again. It was especially important because all the money in the world doesn’t bring back the lives of the 11 crew members who died, it doesn’t help their family’s nightmares go away, and it doesn’t make orthopedic injuries feel any better."

- Jason Itkin
We Represented More Deepwater Horizon Workers

Than Any U.S. Law Firm

In 2010, a pipe malfunction led to the greatest offshore disaster in United States history. The resulting explosion led to the death of 11 workers and injured over 100 more. As the leading maritime lawyers in the United States, more workers turned to Arnold & Itkin than any other firm, allowing us to be the voice that these workers needed. We successfully pursued damages against their employers, British Petroleum, who were responsible for ensuring the safety of the rig.

Cases like this one are why Arnold & Itkin exist.

Oil rig workers are some of the most vital workers in our economy today—their work affects every area of life, from allowing the transport of goods to powering millions of commutes to work every day. They are also some of the most at-risk workers in the nation, with a fatality rate seven times higher than the average U.S. worker. OSHA has conducted multiple studies highlighting how preventable these deaths are, if only employers would invest the necessary time and effort to prevent falls, secure equipment properly, perform regular equipment inspections and maintenance, create policies to prevent disaster, and provide adequate training.

BP failed to perform the necessary equipment maintenance and check-ups that would have prevented the Deepwater Horizon disaster. Dozens upon dozens of innocent men and women paid the price for their mistake. As injury lawyers, it was (and is) our role to help clients like these face the future with confidence and hope. It was our honor to help many of these workers hold BP accountable for their negligence, and it was our privilege to help these clients receive the financial support they needed to get back on their feet.
