Brake deficiencies are the single most cited violation category in commercial vehicle inspections. Out-of-adjustment brakes, worn linings, air system leaks, and ABS malfunctions reduce stopping power by thousands of pounds of force. A fully loaded truck traveling at highway speed can need over 500 feet to stop under ideal conditions. When brakes are defective, that distance grows dramatically and the margin for error disappears.
