Hobbs Truck Accident Lawyers
Water haulers, frac sand trucks, crude tankers, and 18-wheelers run through Hobbs on US 62/180 between Carlsbad and the Texas line and on NM 18 between Lovington, Eunice, and Jal.
And Lea County’s roads have gotten more dangerous since 2020.

Trucking companies send their own people to protect the company after a crash, and electronic logs, engine data, and camera footage can be overwritten on a schedule. We move first, sending preservation demands to every company involved. Our New Mexico truck accident lawyers handle 18-wheeler and commercial vehicle crashes across the state, and our oilfield truck accident lawyers focus on the water haulers, sand trucks, and crew pickups that crowd Lea County roads.
Hobbs Oilfield Accident Lawyers
When something goes wrong on a lease, the oil company’s lawyers get to work right away. Workers hurt on a rig, at a tank battery, or on the drive to the lease deserve a firm that fights just as hard. That’s why we handle New Mexico oilfield accidents the way we handle every case: as though it’s going to trial.
Lea County Oilfield Cases We Handle
Rig explosions and fires
Tank battery accidents
Falls and struck-by injuries
Equipment and pressure failures
Oilfield truck and crew vehicle crashes
Wrongful death of oilfield workers
The companies on location won’t explain your rights, so here’s what you should know:
In New Mexico, workers’ comp is generally your only remedy against your own employer. But you can bring a claim against every other company whose negligence hurt you: the operator, other contractors, and the makers of faulty equipment. New Mexico also allows a claim against an employer that acted willfully, even while you’re receiving comp. And New Mexico’s Oilfield Anti-Indemnity Act stops companies from using contracts to shift the cost of their own negligence onto another company on work at a well, even with a Texas choice-of-law clause.
Where Hobbs Injury Cases Are Filed
A serious injury case filed locally goes to the Lea County District Court in Lovington, part of New Mexico’s Fifth Judicial District. The Hobbs Magistrate Court can only hear civil claims up to $10,000, so it isn’t the place for a catastrophic injury or wrongful death case. Depending on where the companies involved are based, a case may be filed elsewhere.
Choosing where to file is one of the first strategic decisions we make. Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital provides emergency care in town, and the most seriously hurt patients may be transferred to the Level I trauma center at UMC in Lubbock. Your medical records from every facility become part of the case, and we gather them for you.
New Mexico Law After a Hobbs Accident
New Mexico gives you three years from the injury to file a lawsuit, and three years from the date of death in a wrongful death case. If a city, county, or state agency played a part, such as a dangerous road, written notice is due within 90 days, or six months in a death case, and the lawsuit itself generally has to be filed within two years.
Don’t let any of these deadlines sneak up on you.
New Mexico also uses pure comparative fault. Even if an insurer convinces a jury you were partly to blame, you can still recover, reduced by your share. That’s better for injured people than the Texas rule just across the state line, which cuts off recovery above 50% fault.
