Chalmette Refinery Accident Attorneys
Billions Won by Chalmette Industrial Accident Lawyers
Each day, hard-working refinery employees across Louisiana go to work to help produce the energy that keeps the nation moving. These workers enter a work environment that is filled with the dangers created by volatile substances, hazardous vapors, and heavy machinery. Regardless of the hazards, refinery owners are responsible for protecting their employees.
These items are prone to failure and cause refinery accidents:
At Arnold & Itkin, our Chalmette refinery accident lawyers see companies repeat the same frustrating pattern of creating safety rules that they never had any intention on following. We’ve found that, though companies are vocal about their dedication to safety, they are committed to protecting profits over employees. Then, when things go disastrously wrong, companies hide behind their written policies and use it to shift blame onto their employees. When disaster strikes, it is ultimately caused by the employer’s failure to provide for the well-being of refinery workers—either due to the lack of safety equipment or the lack of equipment maintenance. Our Chalmette refinery accident attorneys want to be clear: we will fight for the best recovery of those who have been injured due to employer negligence.

The 2013 Geismar Refinery Explosion
Our refinery accident lawyers proved their dedication to fighting for their clients after the William Olefins refinery exploded in Geismar, Louisiana. This refinery explosion injured 167 people and tragically claimed the lives of 2 others. With such destruction and loss, our attorneys knew that they could not fail the workers that were depending on them for results.
Our investigation revealed an obvious series of neglectful behavior by the oil company that essentially made the plant a ticking time bomb. We were able to prove that William Olefins had changed the refinery’s reboiler system in such a way that led to the explosion 12 years later. Modifications to the reboiler made the safety valve inoperable under certain conditions. When this mistake was discovered and the company was warned, no repairs were made. Eventually, the reboiler exploded exactly as engineers warned it would. William Olefins was given multiple chances to fix this issue for a decade and simply did nothing. OSHA fined William Olefins for the severe neglect they exhibited at the refinery.
Arnold & Itkin was able to prove that the refinery’s management neglected to fix these issues despite having multiple chances to do so. The resulting verdicts earned our clients $33.95 million to pay for their medical expenses, lost wages, and other severe losses. As a result, our clients received the financial assistance they need and deserved, despite the best efforts of the company.
Catastrophic Injuries Caused by Refinery Accidents
Whether it is an explosion, fire, fall, or other cause of injury, the repercussions from a refinery accident are serious, and serious injuries mean serious costs. Most serious injuries immediately put people out of work, taking away their main source of income. Even with disability or workers’ compensation, injured people can find themselves unable to cope with the medical bills that come with serious injuries.
Catastrophic injuries that happen in a refinery include:
Each of these injuries are considered life-altering because those who experience them have their lives drastically changed for the worst. Most of these injuries are permanent—there’s no true recovery from an amputation or the loss of eyesight. Lasting complications from these injuries, as well as the resulting medical debt, adds to the pain of surviving a refinery accident.
