Case Filed for Offshore Worker Seriously Injured During Crane Lift

Arnold & Itkin’s Louisiana maritime lawyers recently filed suit on behalf of an E-Line operator from Sunset, Louisiana, who was seriously injured while working during a crane lift. A negligent crane operator hit the offshore worker in the face with the crane load, knocking him unconscious and causing him to fall to the deck of the vessel.

Our client suffered severe injuries including facial fractures, a traumatic brain injury, and back and neck injuries. He required multiple surgeries to put plates in his face and is still adjusting to life after the incident.

This incident highlights a significant concern within maritime operations: the critical importance of safety protocols and professional training, especially when handling heavy equipment like cranes. In this incident, a momentary lapse in concentration or judgment from the crane operator drastically altered our client's life.

Facial fractures and traumatic brain injuries are not just severe in their immediate impact, but they carry with them long-term implications for a victim's quality of life. The mental and emotional toll of such injuries, combined with the physical pain and the rigorous journey of rehabilitation, can be overwhelming. For our client, adapting to life post-accident means adjusting not only to the physical changes and limitations but also managing the psychological aftereffects of the traumatic event.

We at Arnold & Itkin recognize the gravity of our client's situation and are steadfast in our pursuit of justice on his behalf. This lawsuit is not just about seeking compensation for the injuries and trauma suffered by our client; it also focuses on ensuring that maritime operators adhere strictly to safety guidelines and improve training protocols. An essential aspect of our advocacy is to spotlight the dire need for preventative measures, ensuring that maritime workers are protected and similar incidents are prevented in the future.

By championing this cause, we are not only fighting for one individual but advocating for safer working conditions for all maritime workers, pushing for stricter adherence to safety protocols, and emphasizing the critical importance of adequate training in such hazardous environments.

We filed this suit in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.
