Community Involvement

We’ve dedicated Arnold & Itkin to pursuing justice in the broadest sense of the word: making things right. In the courtroom, there are rules and procedures to ensure justice is served (at least as much as possible). Outside the courtroom, though, there are no rules and certainly no guarantees—just the hope that our neighbors will do right by us, and our commitment to return the favor.

Equipped with that simple philosophy, our firm created the Arnold & Itkin Foundation, which has helped raise or donate millions of dollars to support organizations serving victims of domestic abuse, fighting hatred, keeping schools for neurodivergent learners open under tough circumstances, or simply to make sure a local Little League team gets to play in the Youth World Series. We created our foundation to do right by our neighbors; all we hope in return is for them to pay it forward.

  • 8th Annual RESPECT Contest

Civility is the foundation of a society built on law, and the RESPECT contest is our firm’s way of instilling that knowledge in the next generation. Every year, we invite hundreds of young students from all over Houston to share artwork and an essay on what they think respect means. In 2023, more than 500 students made submissions, but only 12 exceptional students won the grand prize: $1,400 for their school, $1,400 for the charity of their choice, and a $200 prize for them. It was an honor reading all the submissions for the 8th RESPECT Contest, and the quality of each student’s insight made it especially difficult to choose a handful of winners. Well done to all entrants, and congratulations to the winning students and their schools! This year, the charities of choice included Texas Young Autism Project, Texas Children’s Hospital, St. Jude, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Communities in School of Houston, M.D. Anderson’s Cancer Center, and more!
  • Holiday Donation to BEAR

During the 2023 holiday season, Arnold & Itkin proudly supported BEAR (BE A Resource for CPS Kids), an organization aiding vulnerable children in Houston. For 26 years, BEAR has worked with Harris County CPS and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to provide essential aid to abused and neglected children. Our firm contributed toys and gifts, enhancing BEAR's holiday initiatives and bringing joy to these children. BEAR's effective partnership with local and state agencies allows them to invest 85 cents of every dollar raised back into their programs, which include distributing school supplies, celebrating children's achievements, and providing necessary items through BEAR rooms. At Arnold & Itkin, we are honored to support BEAR's mission, reinforcing our commitment to community welfare and the well-being of its most vulnerable members.
  • Holiday Gift Donation to Voz de Niños

In winter 2023, Arnold & Itkin donated dozens of toys, craft sets, and gift cards to Voz de Niños, a nonprofit based in Laredo. Voz de Niños is part of a nationwide network of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) who advocate for abused or neglected children. CASA volunteers provide courts with the information necessary to place children in safe, permanent homes. As parents and advocates, we were honored to help with their efforts to care for the most vulnerable children in our communities.

The Leesville High School basketball team includes about 20 diverse young women who just came off an incredible season, including 18 wins that took them all the way to the second round of playoffs. Youth sports is an important part of learning perseverance, developing coordination, and making friends—many of our firm’s attorneys wouldn’t be the same without it. We’re thrilled to ensure the Lady Cats are able to introduce basketball to more young girls in the Leesville community.

  • Sponsored the Varsity Cobras 2023 Season

In spring 2023, our firm sponsored the Varsity Cobras Little League team, which is affiliated with West University Little League. The team is close to our heart for another reason: Attorney Noah Wexler is their assistant coach, and his son is a player. Go Varsity Cobras!

At Arnold & Itkin, we are committed to supporting The Way Home Adoption, a nonprofit organization that helps children in foster care find permanent homes. For the second year in a row, the AI team got into the holiday spirit by donating hundreds of toys to BEAR (Be A Resource for CPS Kids). BEAR is a 501(c)(3) that works with Harris County CPS and the Texas Department of Family to provide comfort, dignity, and basic care to children who have been uprooted. For children in the foster care system, what BEAR provides is often vital to their growth and long-term well-being. Each year, this non-profit organization focuses on BEARing gifts to children under CPS care who may not receive holiday cheer—and we are thrilled to contribute.

  • Free Legal Clinic at Local Veterans’ Hospital

The Arnold & Itkin team volunteered at the Veterans’ Hospital in Houston for a free legal clinic. Free legal clinics provide much-needed legal advice and services to people who otherwise would not be able to afford an attorney. Legal clinics can address questions on every kind of matter, from child custody cases to filing for bankruptcy and everything in between. We counseled more than a dozen vets on a variety of legal issues. As proud supporters of our military men and women, we are honored to donate our time and energy to events such as this.

While there, the group visited a Dessalines clinic known for its labor and delivery facilities and developed a great relationship with the clinic’s staff. Next to an orphanage, the clinic will be opening within the next few months and will offer healthcare at a minimal cost for the surrounding community. The mission was such a success that the group already has an official medical mission trip planned for April 2016!

More than 5,000 people will be diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma this year, and more than 1,000 will die. The only way to beat this is through more research.
