“The law can be complex and overwhelming without an experienced advocate guiding you. Insurance companies will use confusion to their advantage. At Arnold & Itkin, we work relentlessly to untangle the legal issues, because negligent parties need to be held accountable.”

Biography

Before her legal career, Katie Brown earned degrees in Latin American Studies and Spanish from Brigham Young University. She also volunteered in South America. Following her undergraduate education, Katie worked at a translation firm in Austin, Texas. As part of her work, she translated Spanish-language documents for clients preparing for court proceedings. When interacting with her clients, she saw first-hand the anxiety and confusion that comes with navigating another country’s legal system. Yet in her role at the translation firm, Katie knew she was not qualified to do more. She realized her real passion was advocacy, and decided to attend law school.

Katie earned her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. Her favorite experience at Texas Law was representing pro bono clients in the Law and Religion Clinic and the Employment Rights Clinic. While on the surface each clinic concerned different areas of law, Katie’s work was essentially the same: advocating for others’ rights. In her clinical work, Katie developed her legal research and writing skills at all levels of state and federal court.

During law school, Katie also had the honor of working as a research assistant to Professor Douglas Laycock during his service as the Reporter for the American Law Institute’s “Restatement of the Law Third, Torts: Remedies.” Through that role, Katie deepened her understanding of the kind of compensation courts can and do give to plaintiffs.

Katie's legal background also includes clerking for a civil litigation firm in Northern Virginia and the Office of the Attorney General of Texas. In both those roles she spent substantial time in the courtroom learning the nuts and bolts of litigation and civil procedure.

After graduating from Texas Law, Katie joined Arnold & Itkin as a briefing attorney. Defendants often twist legal precedent to avoid taking responsibility. Katie’s job is to untangle the legal issues for the court through meticulous research which she then distills into briefs for courts. She prepares briefs for cases all across the country and is not afraid to dive into new and complex legal challenges.

Katie lives with her husband, Tommy, in Provo, Utah. When she’s not researching and writing, she enjoys running, watching college football, and playing organ for her local church congregation.
