Representing 4 Workers Injured in Chevron Refinery Explosion in El Segundo, CA

Arnold & Itkin has filed suit on behalf of four workers who were injured in the October 2 explosion and fire at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo, California. The men—contract welders from Texas and Louisiana—were working just 50 feet from the source of the blast when the refinery erupted in flames, forcing them to run for their lives.

The lawsuit alleges that Chevron failed to maintain its equipment and authorized dangerous work despite known risks. The workers suffered serious physical injuries as well as lasting emotional trauma.

Attorney Victoria Alford said, “These contractors should be able to go into a plant, leave their families, and trust that it’s a safe environment to be in.” She emphasized that the fire was a preventable disaster—another example of corporations putting profits ahead of worker safety. “This is a common theme that we’re seeing,” she said. “Cutting corners to increase profits, and it’s at the expense of the workers there.”

The Los Angeles Times recently examined the extensive efforts required to contain the El Segundo refinery blaze. With multiple major fires reported at this same facility in recent years, questions continue to mount over Chevron’s safety practices and oversight.

At Arnold & Itkin, we believe workers deserve better. No one should suffer life-changing injuries because safety was ignored or corners were cut. Our firm is proud to stand beside these men in their fight for justice and accountability.
