Get to Know Attorney Cory Itkin

When Arnold & Itkin was first founded, Kurt and Jason were as deliberate about choosing their teammates as they are today. When they chose to expand their firm with a third attorney, they put their faith in Cory Itkin. Being the first new attorney spoke to Cory’s ambition, drive, skill, and resourcefulness—and it still does. As one of Arnold & Itkin’s senior litigators, Cory is a powerhouse attorney and a compassionate friend to his clients.

On today’s blog, we wanted to give our readers a closer look at one of the most accomplished, influential attorneys in practice today.

Making a Difference in People’s Lives

Cory earned a law degree at the University of Houston and graduated cum laude in the top 10% of his class. He was also inducted into the Order of the Barons, a prestigious honor society for law students.

It was at the University of Houston that Cory had to figure out where to take his career.

“During law school, I kept asking myself what kind of lawyer I wanted to be,” he said. “The answer was always ‘the kind that helps people.’ I didn’t want to spend my days defending some insurance company—I wanted to do something real.”

After graduation, Cory decided to become a plaintiff’s trial attorney. “I think, more than any other job, being a trial attorney lets you make a difference in people’s lives right when they need it most. Especially regular working people who are going through a serious crisis.” Therefore, it was a natural fit that he join his brother’s new firm, which was already making a name for itself as a leading advocate for serious accident victims.

Turning the Tide with Headline Cases

Cory has since been a force to be reckoned with in courts nationwide. He’s won more than 50 cases worth $1 million or more. In at least 7 cases, Cory has won a verdict of $1 million or more after a defendant refused to offer a settlement. He’s also secured multiple settlements in excess of $10 million. His work has helped working families restore their lives after natural disasters, explosions, disasters at sea, and other catastrophic events. He even won the largest helicopter accident verdict in Texas in recent years.

“When you’re a personal injury attorney, everyone you talk to is going through the worst moment of their lives, hands down. You spend a lot of time talking through people’s worries, their fears,” he says. “For me, the rewarding thing is seeing them end up confident and at peace because I fought for them. Witnessing that transformation from ‘scared and unsure’ to ‘grateful and hopeful’—that’s the rewarding part.”

His results have earned the respect of both opponents and colleagues. Within a few years of practicing, he was recognized by the Super Lawyers® Rising Stars™ list—and remained on that list every year until he no longer qualified (Super Lawyers only includes attorneys who’ve been practicing for less than 10 years or are under 40). He was also included on The National Trial Lawyers “Top 100 Trial Lawyers,” Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers (2019-2020), and Best Lawyers® for Admiralty and Maritime Law (2016-2021).

Making the World Safer

Cory’s skill for trying cases and his relentless work ethic have allowed him to win some truly historic victories. In one case, he secured a $116 million settlement for a group of clients after years of demanding, highly contested litigation. He also helped secure a historic $8 billion verdict and another $76.6 million verdict against Johnson & Johnson over the company’s marketing of Risperdal for children’s use. Their marketing plan led to the disfiguring of countless boys nationwide.

Still, for Cory, the best part about his job isn’t necessarily the size of the result.

“It’s not every case, but every once in awhile, you get to work on a case that isn’t just about the client’s life—it’s about the lives of all of a company’s future employees or future customers,” he says. “It’s always rewarding to win a big settlement or verdict for a client, but when you can actually change the way a company does business? You’ve made the world a little safer. I love that.”

Helping Regular Families Find Peace

What Cory has learned after years of practice is that the key to being a good plaintiffs’ law firm isn’t just about aiming for big results. It’s about forming a bond with clients, ensuring that you’re doing everything possible to get them back on their feet. Arnold & Itkin gets the best results possible because we care about our clients.

It’s why we do everything we can to secure their futures.

For Cory, there’s another way to measure the strength of a firm. “Here’s the thing that most folks don’t know: we actually keep in touch with a lot of our clients long after their cases wrap up. We’ll get Christmas cards, check in on them. We really care because we treat them as real people, not case numbers,” he says.

That’s why Cory’s most memorable case was a modest one in comparison to some of his other verdicts. “I can’t share the details of this particular case, but it wasn’t the biggest case in the world,” he said. “So, I’ll say this: it was the most satisfying to win. The man we represented and his family were just such good people, and their lives really got turned upside down. They’d been through a lot, and we were really motivated to help them however we could. In the end, we were able to get them a good result, and seeing how it changed their lives was something I’ll never forget.”

For Cory, a legal victory is a human victory.

It’s what drives his practice and what makes him an excellent advocate for his clients.
