Fieldwood Energy Worker Killed in Gulf of Mexico

A man was killed this weekend while working at a Fieldwood Energy offshore facility in the Gulf of Mexico. The accident occurred May 15, 2021 on Eugene Island 158 No. 14, an unmanned platform that’s located approximately 50 miles south of Marsh Island, LA.

Fieldwood confirmed that the contractor was participating in a “nonemergency casing pressure test on a shut-in well.” It also revealed that no one else was harmed during the accident and that there was no environmental threat triggered by it.

In a statement, Fieldwood said that it has reported the incident to government agencies and is still working to determine how the accident happened. It has not revealed what company the contractor worked for.

About Fieldwood Energy

Fieldwood Energy is one of the largest producers of oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico. According to its website, the company produces about 130,000 barrels of oil daily. Its operations involve extraction from the shallow continental shelf and deepwater throughout the Gulf area. The company filed for bankruptcy last August, citing financial hardships caused by the pandemic.

Our offshore accident lawyers will continue to follow this story as more details are revealed by officials.
