A worker was killed yesterday afternoon in Northeast Harris County after an oil rig fell on him. The industrial accident happened near Humble in the 7000 block of Winfield Road. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the man was working on the oil rig when the back portion of it fell on him. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Authorities have yet to release the identity of the deceased worker. However, a Harris County sergeant at the scene told reporters that the man was in his 30s. Additionally, it was revealed that there were about six or seven people working at the site at the time of the accident. Another worker was taken to the hospital with shoulder injuries.
Oilfield work is one of the most dangerous ways to make a living in Texas. The industry is filled with hazards from dangerous machinery, toxic substances, and the extraction of a highly combustible product.
