A lineman has been killed and one more has been seriously injured during an industrial accident in Chambers County. According to officials, the lineman was killed when the basket he was working in fell about 106 feet to the ground.

Sheriff Brian Hawthorne confirmed that the accident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday just outside Mont Belvieu near FM 1942 and Hatcherville Road.

What Happened During the Chambers County Lineman Accident

According to reports, the linemen were working on a high voltage transmission line when the metal basket they were in became unstable. The basket then separated from the crane that was supporting it and crashed to the grown.

Multiple crews responded to the scene, where Justice of the Peace Blake Sylvia pronounced one worker dead. The second person was transported to Memorial Hermann in Houston and is in critical condition.

According to Industrial Safety & Hygiene News, working as a lineman is one of the most dangerous jobs in the nation. Lineman work at dangerous heights around powerlines with extremely high voltages. The profession has 20 fatalities per every 100,000 workers—a fact that means employers must always make sure their linemen are safe.

Arnold & Itkin’s work accident lawyers will continue to follow any new developments with this incident.
