Denver & Jodie Coulter Survive a Devastating Gas Explosion
On August 1, 2019, Denver and Jodie Coulter woke in the middle of the night to find their home surrounded by flames. A gas line explosion had erupted just outside, engulfing the neighborhood in fire.
“I woke up in the middle of the night, gripping the side of my mattress, and I realized that everything around me outside was on fire.”
The sound was deafening—like a train barreling past their home. Denver thought a tornado was hitting until he saw the fire. When he opened the back door, the heat was unbearable.
“It didn’t take me long to come to a point that we were trapped, and we weren’t going to get out.”
Jodie remembers the moment they ran for their lives.
“We opened the back door to a flood of fire, just pouring like a tornado. My skin immediately started to sear, and it took my breath.”
The Aftermath of the Explosion
The Coulters lost everything that night. Their home, their cars, their memories—all gone. Later, they learned the gas line had exploded due to poor maintenance.
While rebuilding their lives, they met Candy Ellis, the daughter of a woman who died in the same explosion. Candy told them about Arnold & Itkin.
“She said she really had a lot of trust and faith in them. That’s how we ended up going with Arnold & Itkin.”
Moving Forward After Tragedy
For Jodie, working with the firm provided something deeper than legal help—it gave her peace.
“They picked up that stress for me. They have allowed me to close that chapter, feel good about it, and move forward without looking back with regrets.”
Denver shares the same feeling of relief.
“It’s almost like going over to see your family and sitting down and talking with them. After working with Arnold & Itkin, I feel good about my future.”
The Coulters’ story is one of strength and survival in the face of overwhelming loss. Their courage—and the trust they placed in Arnold & Itkin—allowed them to rebuild, heal, and look toward a brighter future.
