Monday continues to be a bad day for the Midwest as the second industrial plant has suffered an explosion with serious injuries and fatalities. Mid American Steel & Wire, located south of Madill in Oklahoma, reportedly experienced an explosion around 3:30 in the afternoon. Marshall County Sherriff Ed Kent confirmed two fatalities and one injured victim, who is being treated in the hospital. Information as to the circumstances, cause or even extent of damage is minimal, as the incident happened only minutes ago. KXII News reported the incident first and updates will be made as information is further released.
Madill is not the first community to be faced with such a tragedy in the last 24 hours. This morning, an animal feed plant in south-central Omaha, Nebraska, exploded, claiming the lives of two trapped workers and injuring up to 17 others. Investigations and recovery efforts are still underway as local authorities are working to secure the building and assess the situation.
We will continue to update you on both incidents as we receive information. Arnold & Itkin is compassionate to the victims and their family members—we hope both matters are contained and resolved quickly.
