Two Missing After Helicopter Crashes into the Gulf of Mexico

Earlier today, a private helicopter crashed into the Gulf of Mexico near Terrebonne Bay, LA. According to the latest reports, the civilian helicopter had been attempting to land on the oil rig platform before the accident occurred. That same rig reported the crash, but the helicopter sank before anyone was able to get to it.

A spokesman for the Coast Guard said in today's statement that they received a distress call just before 3 p.m.; currently, the Coast Guard is continuing its search to look for the two people who are still missing. While the aerial search has been suspended because of limited vision, the ocean vessel is still out looking for any survivors.

Just last year, another helicopter accident occurred near Terrebonne Bay; that helicopter had also been attempting to land on an oil rig. In that 2013 crash, there were no fatalities and all three survivors were rescued.

Arnold & Itkin sends our hearts out to those involved in this accident, as well as their loved ones.
