Contractor Found Dead at Dow Oyster Creek Site

On the morning of Tuesday, July 7, a contractor was found dead at the Dow Oyster Creek Site. The contractor, who was 46 years old, was found unconscious after he had entered into a confined space entry vessel.

After the contractor was found, emergency crews were called to the location, where they performed CPR. The contractor was then taken to Brazosport Regional Health System in an ambulance where he was pronounced dead. The body was then transported for autopsy to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s office.

According to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Investigator, it is unsure whether the cause of the death was natural or not. Due to the location, it is possible that the contractor had been killed from gas that was within the pipe or vessel. It is also possible it was simply from a lack of oxygen.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues during this extremely difficult time. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident,” said Dow Chemical Co. in a statement today.
