Earlier this month, two workers were injured in a crane accident in northeast Amarillo, Texas. The two construction workers were installing a water line in a 15-20 foot deep hole when an angle iron fell from a crane and struck both workers.
Firefighters responded to the scene and were able to rescue the injured workers from the bottom of the hole. They were both rushed by paramedics to a nearby hospital. While the full extent of the injuries were not immediately known, one worker was said to be having breathing problems and the other worker had suffered a severe head injury. Both workers were in their mid-twenties.
Construction work is some of the most dangerous work in the country. Accidents involving cranes generally result in severe or fatal injuries. According to OSHA, accidents involving a worker being struck by an object are the leading cause of fatalities in the construction industry.
