Late Thursday evening, two men were tragically killed when a piece of heavy industrial equipment flipped and fell on them at Spritzer Industries. The accident happened at about 9 p.m. at the 13800 block of Industrial Road in east Harris County. The Spitzer Industries workers were moving the equipment and were trapped when it flipped over. One of the workers died at the scene, while the other victim was flown to the hospital where he also died. Local deputies and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the incident.
This is the third industrial accident that has occurred in the Houston area in the last three weeks. Spitzer Industries is a Houston-based company that delivers a range of steel fabrication of heavy vessels, towers, and structural steel. Their operations require a safe work environment and extensive safety training to prevent workplace accidents.
Why Are Industrial Accidents Common in Texas?
Industrial accidents occur frequently and affect hundreds of workers across the United States. Many industrial accidents occur because employers fail to provide a safe work environment for employees or they fail to provide safety training to prevent work accidents from occurring. Employers who willfully ignore work safety regulations should be held liable for neglect in the event of an industrial accident.
