Personal injury cases that were filed against energy companies faced extensive delays throughout 2020 as courts paused operations because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, as 2021 offers the hope of effective vaccinations and a reopened economy, delayed trials are expected to proceed.
Experts are predicting that these delayed cases will significantly impact the bottom line for energy companies. In a comment to Investing.com, analyst Sammy Montgomery predicts that 2021 will be a year of reckoning for negligent companies that have harmed workers.
“There are a number of big cases looming in 2021 over accidents and deaths due to the alleged negligence of energy service companies,” Montgomery said. “Investors should be aware that settlements arising from these could blow a hole in the bottom line of some of these companies already reeling from last year’s devastation caused by the pandemic.”
While 2020 was difficult for the energy industry, it’s been even more challenging for regular workers and their families who are struggling because of an injury or death. When they needed help the most, a historic pandemic brought their hopes to a temporary halt. Now, as courts resume once again, hope is visible on the horizon. A year of financial hardship doesn't insulate energy companies from accountability.
Arnold & Itkin Will Be Among the First Back in Courts to Demand Justice
As courts reopen, Arnold & Itkin is proud to be among the first law firms returning to try cases before a jury. We'll demand long-overdue compensation for families suffering from negligence in the energy sector.
On January 12, we’ll start a trial against TEAM, a Sugarland, Texas company that failed to prevent the deaths of two workers. TEAM didn't adequately maintain an elevator at the Westar Energy plant in Kansa, triggering an accident that killed two workers.
Our plant accident lawyers are representing one of the deceased workers. Their family has suffered immensely from this preventable accident, and their pain has been compounded by circumstances of unprecedented global events. We’re looking forward to finally have the chance to fight for the results that they deserve. No matter what.
