ExxonMobil Baytown Explosion & Fire Injures 4

Four people were injured in what authorities referred to as a "major industrial accident" at the ExxonMobil oil refinery in Baytown, Texas, just about 25 miles east of Houston. The incident happened at about 1:00 am on December 23, 2021. Early reports indicated that an explosion of some sort had occurred inside the plant, causing a fire, but the exact details remain to be seen. Three workers were airlifted to the hospital and a fourth was also transported to receive treatment. All other personnel at the facility were accounted for.

Incidents like this happen all too frequently. Workers at our nation's refineries and plants shouldn't have to risk their lives simply by doing their jobs. Our Baytown explosion lawyers stand ready to learn the true cause of the accident and hold ExxonMobil and any other potentially at-fault parties accountable.

Baytown Plant & Refinery Owners Need to Protect Their Workers

At our plant and refinery accident law firm, we have seen it happen time and time again. Companies that write up detailed safety plans and policies—but fail to implement them. Companies that talk about how much they care about their employees—but then turn their back on them when help is needed the most. At the end of the day, it comes down to dollars and cents with these corporations. Too frequently, they make the choices that prioritize profit over the safety, well-being, and even very lives of their workers. And when the inevitable happens, they all too often refuse to take responsibility so they can take care of their employees.

Our Baytown plant and refinery accident attorneys are here to make sure that they don’t get away with it.

Over the years, we have stood toe-to-toe with industrial giants, from Chevron to BP, and held them responsible for their actions and the injuries and trauma they cause. When they fail to protect their employees, and fail to take care of them in the aftermath, we’re there to make sure they do the right thing. Not because we ask. Because we force them to. To see for yourself, all you need to do is check out our track record of success.

Our Baytown plant explosion attorneys don’t take no for an answer. We get the truth for those we represent and fight for maximum compensation. Call (888) 493-1629 to learn more.

Giving a Voice to Victims of Catastrophic Plant & Refinery Accidents

The injuries caused by plant accidents, such as plant fires and chemical spills, are nothing short of catastrophic. In some cases, the injuries are caused when workers are just trying to get away: injuries to their backs and knees or broken bones sustained while jumping down and trying to run. In other cases, they are the loss of senses, such as hearing and eye sight, or life-threatening burn injuries. And, in some instances, the explosion results in death.

Regardless of the type of injury you or your loved one has suffered, the one thing that stays the same is that you didn’t deserve it and you don’t deserve to be left on your own. You didn’t ask for this accident to happen. You should not be forced to pick up the pieces without comprehensive, compassionate assistance. You deserve help during the recovery process—and we are here to help ensure that you receive just that.

We fight for the compensation that you need for damages such as:

  • Loss of current & future earnings
  • Current & future medical costs
  • Household expenses
  • Pain & suffering
  • Loss of companionship
  • Funeral costs

Baytown Plant Fires

Fuel refineries and chemical plants are filled with volatile chemicals. Both products and the chemicals used to make those products can ignite or explode when exposed to the air. Proper storage and use of these chemicals is vital for worker safety; when plant supervisors don't invest in safe storage, it's likely that a plant can catch fire, cause severe injuries, and expose thousands to dangerous chemicals.

Injuries from Baytown plant fires have included:

Many of these injuries can occur in the surrounding community. For instance, in July 2019 the Baytown ExxonMobil plant exploded and caught fire, leading to a shelter-in-place order for several hours. More than 60 workers were hurt, all of which were examined at a health clinic and received first aid. All were released, but there was some concern among residents that Exxon had downplayed some of the injuries. The fire, located in the olefins plant at one of the largest petrochemical complexes in the world, was contained later that evening.

Our firm is representing people who were harmed by the ExxonMobil plant explosion in Baytown and investigating who was at fault for the explosion and subsequent fire.

The 2013 Geismar Plant Explosion

In June 2013, the Williams Olefins plant in Geismar, Louisiana exploded. A reboiler with a dangerously-designed valve system was turned on incorrectly, turning it into a highly-volatile pressurized bomb. Our investigation found that Williams Olefins and its parent company were aware of egregious safety issues at the plant surrounding the valve—and even had multiple opportunities to provide a simple and inexpensive solution. Despite all warnings that an explosion was inevitable, the company prioritized production speed over safety.

In the end, it cost the community the lives of 2 workers and injured 167 more.

A group of these workers came to Arnold & Itkin because Williams Olefins refused to take responsibility for what they did. Our industrial accident workers built a case on their behalf, winning $15.45 million in an initial verdict. Williams Olefins believed that the verdict was a fluke—that no jury would find them responsible a second time. Just a few weeks later, Arnold & Itkin secured a second verdict for $18.5 million.

Burn Injuries from Chemical Plant Explosions, Factory Accidents & Others

With high amounts of volatile materials in the air and in storage, explosions at chemical refineries are often followed by intense fires. It's fire that endangers workers the most—scorching their lungs, burning their limbs, creating lifelong scars or creating permanent disabilities. Our Baytown burn injury attorneys have helped countless industrial workers who were left without careers or resources for proper care after explosions.

Burns are the costliest injuries a person could suffer—mostly due to the length of the hospital stay as well as ongoing care and reconstruction. For burns that cover 30% of the body or more, hospitalization could cost into the six-figure range.

If your loved one has suffered burn injuries as a result of a plant explosion or other industrial accident, we can help you get them the care they need. With the costs you're facing, our burn injury lawyers will fight to get you every penny you need to pay for treatment, put food on the table, and make your life as normal as possible.
