At Least Six Injured After Explosion at Logansport Water Treatment Plant

An explosion at a municipal water treatment facility in Logansport, Louisiana, sent at least six people to the hospital Thursday morning and triggered a hazardous materials response in DeSoto Parish.

The blast was reported around 8:30 a.m. at the Logansport Water Plant on Water Plant Road. The explosion triggered a chemical release, but emergency officials confirmed the spill has been contained to the immediate facility. According to Mark Pierce of the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office, one of the six injuries was reported as serious. The identities of those injured have not been released, and the full extent of their conditions remains unknown.

Pierce stated that it is unclear at this time which chemicals were involved in the release. A hazardous materials team remains on scene.

Early concerns about evacuation were ruled out shortly after emergency crews arrived, and no evacuation orders were issued for the surrounding area. Authorities did shut down through-traffic on roads immediately surrounding the facility, located at 189 Water Plant Road, to clear space for emergency vehicles and response crews.

Local officials stated that the municipal water system appears to be operating normally, with no indication of a widespread threat to the public water supply. However, one news outlet noted that residents may experience minor service interruptions as crews assess the damage and make necessary repairs.

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office issued a statement reassuring the public that the situation was being closely monitored and that there is no known threat to the surrounding community beyond the immediate response area. The cause of the explosion has not been determined.
