Case Description
Attorney Cory Itkin of Arnold & Itkin secured a record-breaking $164.5 million settlement for the family of a worker who was burned to death while on the job at an oil and gas facility. The settlement is believed to be the largest ever obtained on behalf of a single victim.
The worker was on the job when a fire broke out at the facility. He was transferred to a burn unit, where, despite the best efforts of his medical team, he died from his injuries several weeks later. He was not married, but he had four adult children.
The case was highly complex. Our team took dozens of depositions and engaged in substantial motion practice before the court as we built the case toward trial. One week before trial was set to begin, the defendants chose to settle rather than face a jury.
At Arnold & Itkin, we were proud to obtain justice for this family. We were proud to secure a settlement that will ensure meaningful change in the industry. And we were proud to help bring some measure of closure to a family that lost someone they loved.
This case was litigated in Nueces County, Texas.
Attorney's fees and expenses totaled $67,444,581.41.
