Petition Filed After Elevator Malfunction at Houston Methodist Hospital

Arnold & Itkin has filed a pre-suit petition in Harris County against The Methodist Hospital, (doing business as Houston Methodist Hospital) after our client was injured when an elevator at the hospital’s facility suddenly dropped in May 2026. What should have been a routine ride between floors turned into a frightening and injurious elevator incident because of an equipment failure that has not yet been explained.

The petition seeks to investigate Houston Methodist and obtain maintenance, inspection, and contractor records connected to the elevator, records that will help determine what caused the malfunction and identify any parties who may be responsible for it. Elevators inside hospitals carry patients, visitors, and staff every day, and facilities have a duty to keep this equipment properly maintained and inspected.

Our premises liability lawyers are pursuing this investigation to uncover exactly what went wrong and to hold Houston Methodist, any other responsible party, accountable for our client’s injuries.
