Pasadena Plant & Refinery Accident Lawyers

Setting Things Right for Injured Plant Workers. $10+ Billion Recovered.

Plant and refinery workers play an essential role in American industry. They work hard day in and day out, often performing physically demanding labor, and working with and around heavy machinery, toxic chemicals, and any of a number of hazards that would make most people want to run the other way. Located along the Houston Ship Channel, Pasadena is one of the most concentrated areas of chemical plants and oil refineries in Texas. The people who live and work in Pasadena may be at risk of suffering serious harm if an accident, fire, or explosion occurs at any one of these facilities.

The unfortunate truth is that plant and refinery accidents are preventable. Many can be traced back to specific causes related to decisions made by boardroom executives or plant supervisors who placed more importance on profits than on the safety of their workers. Failures to replace aging equipment, delayed inspections, improper training methods, inadequate safety gear, and defective machinery can all cause 1catastrophic plant and refinery accidents that leave workers seriously injured or killed.

Our Pasadena plant accident attorneys are standing by to help if you were injured or lost a loved one in a fire, explosion, or other incident at a refinery or plant. Call (888) 493-1629 today for a free consultation.

Pasadena Is No Stranger to Plant & Refinery Accidents

Through the years, Pasadena has seen some disastrous accidents at its plants and refineries. The worst was an incident that occurred on October 23, 1989. A series of explosions at the Phillips Petroleum Company’s Houston Chemical Complex (HCC) facility near the Houston Ship Channel claimed 23 workers’ lives and injured 314. The initial blast rocked the area with the force of 2.4 tons of TNT, registering at 3.5 on the Richter scale. Five more explosions followed, and it took 10 hours to get the resulting fire under control.

In another Pasadena refinery accident, a worker suffered severe burns when a generator exploded on March 5, 2016. The incident took place at Pasadena Refining System, Inc. Flames broke out after the explosion, and there was so much black smoke in the air that parts of the Houston Ship Channel were closed for several hours. A more recent accident took place on August 18, 2020, at the Chevron Pasadena Refinery. The incident involved a fire on an oil tank at the property. The fire was put out within about an hour of its discovery, and no one was injured.

Common Questions

  • Who Can Be Held Responsible for a Plant or Refinery Accident?

One or more parties may be responsible for a chemical plant or oil refinery accident in Pasadena, TX. Often, our attorneys find that the company that owns and operates the plant is to blame, as incidents can be traced back to failures to implement appropriate safety standards, violations of OSHA regulations, poor employee training, or decisions to delay the replacement or repair of aging equipment. With cases of this kind, our Pasadena refinery accident law firm works with investigators, experts in refinery safety, and other qualified professionals to determine exactly what caused the accident. We can then determine who is to blame and seek justice on behalf of injured workers and their families.
  • Should I File a Workers’ Comp Claim After a Pasadena, TX Plant Accident?

Whether you have a workers’ compensation claim or other type of case will depend on the nature of the accident and whether you were on the job at the time. For most industrial accidents, workers are entitled to medical care and financial support without having to prove the fault of their employers or other parties. Workers’ comp benefits are limited, however, so it’s important to talk to a lawyer who has experience with plant accident cases. In some cases, a worker may have grounds for a personal injury lawsuit, which would allow for additional compensation.
  • What Is My Refinery Accident Claim Worth?

Every refinery injury case is unique. Workers experience unthinkable trauma in fires, explosions, and other incidents at Pasadena oil refineries. For this reason, it is difficult to “put a price on” what a case is worth. At Arnold & Itkin, our goal is to expose the wrongdoing that caused the accident and then pursue the level of compensation that will help an injured refinery worker or the family of a worker who has lost his or her life face a brighter and more stable future. We will pursue compensation for medical care, ongoing treatment, lost earnings, loss of future earnings, emotional trauma, pain and suffering, and every single loss or expense our client has experienced and may experience in the future. We want to show oil and gas companies that they can’t put profits over the safety of their workers, while helping our clients get the best treatment and the support they need—for life.
