Plant explosions defy description. They're catastrophes in the truest sense—events that change everything in an instant. The victims of chemical plant explosions include both the people who are injured in the accident and the families that care for them. Medical care following a serious explosion and fire is a lifelong sentence, forcing people to accrue hundreds of thousands of medical debt while robbing them of the ability to make a living.
Georgia workers suffer severe industrial injuries of all kinds, including:
Our Atlanta plant explosion attorneys represent workers throughout the country, helping them hold negligent companies accountable for the explosions they inadvertently cause. When a person is severely burned or wrongfully killed in a plant explosion, especially a chemical explosion, it's almost always the result of the company's negligence. How do we know? Because we've represented literally hundreds of victims of plant explosions, and the same pattern emerges every time.
Our plant accident lawyers have investigated some of the worst industrial accidents in US history. In the aftermath of the accident, workers expect their companies to stand by them—instead, most companies cut and run, blaming the accident on outside factors (or the victim). Our firm keeps companies from running away from the messes they make. We hold them accountable for the damage and losses they cause. As a result, our firm has helped our clients secure billions of dollars from the companies that wronged them, helping families put food on the table, keep a roof over their heads, and cover their medical bills for the rest of their lives.
We are Arnold & Itkin LLP—and we stand with burn victims and plant explosion survivors in Atlanta and throughout Georgia. Call (888) 493-1629 or use our short form to review your options with an attorney for free.
Georgia Burn Injury Lawyers Representing Atlanta & Beyond
One of the most common effects of an explosion is a severe burn injury. Burn injuries are among the most painful and costly of all catastrophic injuries. Physically, third-degree burns are permanent, creating scars and disfigurement that can leave a person feeling socially isolated and unable to work. Financially, burn injuries cost families hundreds of thousands of dollars just for the initial hospitalization and treatment. Burn specialists and the need for long-term care push the cost even higher.
Secondary health complications are common for burn victims following their accident. Respiratory burns leave victims more likely to suffer respiratory infections, which occurs in nearly half of all severe cases. Psychological problems—especially in the wake of traumatic explosions—can leave survivors mentally unprepared for dealing with their injuries, many of which pose serious threats to their quality of life.
With mounting medical bills, the sufferers of traumatic explosions are far more likely to declare bankruptcy than an uninjured person in the same position.
Georgia Wrongful Death Attorneys
Death is always sad, but the tragedy of an accidental death leaves both grief and confusion in its wake. Why did this happen? Why didn't the company do something to keep this from happening? What does my family do now? The grief we're describing is what happens after a wrongful death—or a death caused by someone else's negligence.
The wrongful death attorneys at Arnold & Itkin have helped families work through their pain while pursuing justice for their deceased loved one. Our work has forced the world's largest companies to change their policies, to abide by safety laws, and to face up to what they did. Most importantly, our work has helped families who lost their only breadwinner—who lost their partner or parent or child—move forward with closure and peace.
Chemical Plant Explosion in Orchard Hill, GA
On August 7, 2018, an explosion ignited in the ARI facility in Orchard Hill. The blast severely injured two workers, one of whom was left with third-degree burns all over 90% of his body. While both of them lived, neither of them was able to get medical care immediately because a thunderstorm kept helicopters away from the accident site.
An initial investigation revealed that the accident was triggered during a chemical mixing process, which reportedly employed acetone. The equipment used for mixing needed to be grounded, but one of the employees allegedly skipped this vital step. As a result, the aerosolized chemicals triggered a massive blast.

Why Do Plant Explosions Happen?
Our Georgia plant explosion attorneys have investigated hundreds of accidents like the Orchard Hill explosion, and every single time, they're caused by cutting corners, aging equipment, or poorly-trained workers. Plant explosions happen because a supervisor, an executive, or a manager wasn't paying attention—plain and simple. Workers in the chemical manufacturing industry can attest to how employees with minimal experience are allowed to climb the ranks, then are told to spend as little money as possible on safety. The result is a facility primed for disaster.
Our plant explosion law firm has helped workers get what the need to move forward:
- $97 Million – Our firm secured a life-changing settlement on behalf of refinery accident survivors who were burned in a fire. Their settlement helped them afford medical care and provide for their families.
- $39.7 Million – Our firm secured a massive verdict for an individual who was burned in a plywood plant explosion. His injuries required multiple surgeries prior to trial (and demanded future treatment). The verdict covered the cost of his past and future treatment while paying for his basic needs in the present.
- $18.5 Million – In the second of two verdicts, our firm represented victims of Williams Olefins and SABIC Petrochemical injured in the 2013 Geismar explosion. This verdict is what convinced Williams Olefins to offer settlements to the rest of the injured.
- $15.45 Million – In our initial Geismar explosion trial, Arnold & Itkin secured a massive verdict for four workers in spite of the company attempting to limit their recovery and blaming the explosion on other factors. The company eventually received 98 percent of the blame.
